Her very name reflects the legacy that she carries forth. “Hanalei” is simply a compilation of “Hannah’s Legacy”, began by a young women who understood that one girl can change her world with caring and love.

In 2005, down a winding country road, there were two neighbors who not only shared a common fence line but also a love for horses. On one side of the fence lived two young mares and on the other side lived a variety of five more horses. One of which who was a PMU colt that was still growing into his lanky Belgium heritage. Upon returning home from a shared trip, the neighbors found that the long legged colt had handily stepped over the fence and was now standing amongst the mares with a big smile on his face.

Several months later tragedy struck the rural community. A disagreement broke out between the ‘settling’ home owners with their hobby farms and the new land owners who were moving in from more affluent urban areas. In order to increase property values, someone took it upon themselves to begin eradicating family horses through intentional poisoning. Before the community understood what was happening, seven horses died . . . including the Belgian colt and one of the young mares.

Since it was believed that the poisonings were happening at night, the family kept their last remaining mare locked in their garage to insure her safety. It was during this time that they contacted the ranch for help. “Hannah” arrived shortly after this initial contact. Because there are no coincidences with the Lord . . . Hannah delivered her foal, her ‘legacy’ on Memorial Day (this story can be read in it’s entirety in “Bridge Called Hope—Hannah’s Legacy”).

True to her sires fun loving nature and her mothers steady mind and build, Hanalei is already a vital part of what the ranch is and does. Although she was born as an enormous chocolate colored filly with black points, she is following her mothers strong mustang heritage and is rapidly roaning out to gray.

As Hanalei continues to carry out Hannah’s legacy, we are excited to see how the Lord has and will keep on using her to reach out to those around her . . . with the powerful love of one.
