I'm looking for the perfect match my horse. To an approved home only. Heartbreakingly on Jan. 20th Big Sky was diagnosed with a bone cyst in his right hind pastern. He is sound as long as he is not taken on long strenuous rides up and down hills, on uneven footing, at high speeds or with a heavy rider.
My riding style does not make him a good match for me. I like to spend all my time riding in the wilderness, off trail, in steep canyons exploring new country. My veterinarian did say that there is a surgical option to have the joint fused in the pastern where the cyst is located. Sadly the cost of that procedure is out of my means. According to my vet the bone cyst is a soft spot in the bone which will likely never get much better, however with the right riding conditions it should not worsen.
Training: He originally came from Wisconsin where he was started and I was told had some entry level Dressage training, when his owners could not keep him anymore due to marital issues he was shipped out here and donated to Crystal Peaks Youth Ranch. They owned him for a year and a half and decided that he was to big and not a great fit for low experience low confidence kids. I have owned him since the first part of November. He is by far the finest horse that I have ever owned. He loads and trailers like a dream, is great with his feet, stands tied, gets along like a doll with other horses, is great to saddle and blanket, has a puppy dog personality, is current on everything, I've never clipped him but he came with a bridle path, and I have never had the chance to give him a bath but as far as I know he is fine with it.
So here I am, I'm looking for the perfect match for him. Ideally I see him fitting in with a smaller adult rider who has no desire to take him in the back country on strenuous rides or make him their next barrel /gaming/rope/jumping horse. he is a big love of a horse and has never offered to exhibit any bad behavior with me, however I do feel that because of his age he needs to be with a singe rider who knows what they are doing, and who knows what is best for him and his condition. Therefore I do not feel like he would be a good kids horse as kids want to do what is fun and not necessarily what is best for him.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or if you feel like you would be a good fit for him. I am looking for another horse to replace him so I am open to trades if you think that you have what would work will for me.
